The daughter of a sick man ask a priest to come to her house to make a prayer for her really sick dad. When the priest enters the room of the sick man, finds him in his bed with his head up with few pillows. There was a chair beside his bed, so the priest assume that the man was expecting him.
-“I supposed you were expecting me”, the priest said.
-“No, who are you?”, the man said.
-“I’m the priest that your daughter called to pray with you. When I saw the empty chair beside your bed I assume you were expecting my visit.”
-“Oh yes, the chair.”, the sick man said, “Do you mind closing the door?”
The priest surprised closed the door.
The man says: -“I’ve never told this to anyone, but…all my life I’ve had never know how to pray. When I was at church I’ve always heard about prayer, that you’re supposed to pray and the benefits it brings. But this thing about prayer always goes through my ear and out the other, cause I don’t know how to really do it. Then I abandoned the prayer for a long time. It had been like this until like four years ago, when talking with my best friend, he told me: “Jose, this thing about prayer is simply having a conversation with Jesus. So I suggest that you do this: sit down in a chair and put another empty chair in front of you, and then with faith look at Jesus sitting in front of you. Is nothing crazy doing this because He once told us: ” I’ll be always with you”. So talk and listen to Him the same way you’re doing with me right now.
So I did it once and I liked it so much that I’ve been doing it for two hours daily since then. I’m always careful that my daughter never sees me because she will put me in a mental hospital.
The priest felt a great emotion hearing this and told Jose that is really good what he’s been doing and that he never stop doing it. Then he pray for him, give him his blessings and when back to his church.
Two days after, Jose’s daughter called the priest and told him her father died.
The priest asked:
- Did he died in peace?
- Yes, when I left the house at about 2pm he called me and I went to see him. He told me how much he loves me and gave me a kiss. When I came back from doing some groceries hours later I found him dead. But there’s something weird about his death, cause apparently just before he died he went to the empty chair that was beside his bed and lay his head on it, that’s how I found him. What do you think this means?
The priest wipes his tears and said:
- I wish we may all go like this.
